Putting one's head under the focusing cloth is a thrill. . . . To pivot the camera slowly around watching the image change on the ground glass is a revelation, one becomes a discoverer . . . and finally the complete idea is there. . .
— Edward Weston, 1930

Ross Magnuson
I am a Montana native who enjoys the beauty of the scenic landscapes of "The Treasure State". Born in Havre, Montana and raised on the High Line I have enjoyed the prairies and flat lands. I attended college in Glendive which offered me the opportunity to experience the badlands and wide open spaces of Eastern Montana. I now live in Billings where I get to enjoy all the landscapes, along with the mountains.
I have been a hobbyist photographer since 1977. I converted from traditional film to digital photography in 2003. This allowed me to have my "dark room" on my computer and enjoy more of the many artistic aspects of photography. My favorite shooting subjects are landscapes with western appeal. I refer to it as "wrangling the light".
I have been a member of the BCC for about 14 years and it has helped my photography immensely. Being around other photographers with experience of all levels and competing in club competition has been invaluable.

. . . is a retired physician who has been interested in photography for 50 years, especially since the "digital darkroom" dramatically expanded what we are able to do with captured light.
He uses an Olympus OM-D E-M1 II micro-4/3 format, an Olympus E-M5 converted to infrared, and a Nikon D800E. Favorite subjects are whatever draws your eye, evokes emotion or engages your mind. He prefers to do his own printing and is the webmaster for the BCC.

As a fourth generation Montanan, I found my love of the outdoors traveling with my family and relatives across the state. This has transpired into capturing the beauty of Montana through my camera lens. I take pleasure in capturing the moments of where I am at. It is not unusual to see me out in 20 below weather to blazing heat of summer to the cool air of the Absarokee Mountains.
I shoot with a Nikon D300s, Nikon 16-35mm- F4; Nikon 70-200mm F2.8; Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 and a Nest tripod.

I live in the country north of Billings with dogs, horses, and a goldfish in the stock tank. I have taken pictures ever since my parents got me a little Kodak Brownie when I was nine or ten. I have gradually upgraded equipment and technique and enjoy shooting all kinds of subjects, although my favorites are animals in action and photojournalism shots. I have been a member of the Billings Camera Club for over 25 years.

I have lived in Billings 36 years after growing up mainly in the South. Photography has always been part of my life starting with a Tourist Kodak Camera given to me by my grandmother when I was around 10, see
http://www.bnphoto.org/bnphoto/KodakTourist.html
After that was a used Arugus C3 from my father, then various Kodak Instamatics. As I remember, my first 35mm camera was a Canon F-1 with a 50mm f/1.2L Lens purchased in 1971 at a pawnshop in Texas while I was in the army. I have stayed with Canon for over 46 years.
I am for the most part self taught but did attend Sumer Insensitive at RMSP after retiring in 2008. Major subject interest now is family, travel, birds and landscape photography. Next project is learning Photoshop to a much higher level.
